Flat Polls. Weak Ratings. Do Political Conventions Have a Future?

Photo/NY times

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted how recent political conventions have run. Instead of a candidate riling up a crowd of supporters in-person, conventions have been solely broadcasted on TV. But before going any further, why are political conventions even held? Well, they fire up the party’s supporters, help candidates fund-raise, and attendees have fun going. However, in-person political conventions are extremely expensive to hold, and the COVID-19 pandemic has shown that broadcasted conventions can reach more people and are more intimate as candidates are speaking to each individual person instead of an entire crowd. Many believe that in the future, we will not go back to a traditional convention; instead, they believe that it will be some sort of hybrid.
